After taking an Environmental Journalism course in 2024, I found that I enjoyed channeling my writing skills into science communication through public magazines and journals. I became the Managing Editor for Unearthed, SUNY ESF's literary magazine, and I continue to look for opportunities to write about environmental and outdoor topics.

Feeling Rooted: An all-female and non-binary mountain biking festival in Western New York

The Rooted MTB Festival is more than just a mountain biking event—it’s a community-driven nonprofit that fosters inclusivity, education, and empowerment for women and non-binary individuals in the mountain biking world. Founded in 2020 by Heather Kinal, the festival addresses the lack of local opportunities for these groups to learn and ride together. Their mission is to create a safe and welcoming space where riders of all skill levels can build confidence, connect with others, and expand their knowledge of biking and outdoor recreation.
